OAKVILLE - The five-and-a-half month long strike will continue at a young offender facility in Oakville. The 145 members of Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 213 at Syl Apps Youth Centre voted 80 per cent to reject the tentative agreement arrived at Oct. 1.
Local president Mohar Budhram said members rejected the agreement because they felt many of the issues have still not been fully addressed.
“The members feel taxpayers are subsidizing this employer to keep us out on strike,” he said. “They also feel that the proposed staggered return-to-work plan fell short of their expectations.”
Staff at Syl Apps Youth Centre have been on strike since April 15, 2004.
