TORONTO: Legal Aid Ontario staff, members of Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 525, have asked for a no-board report after an "insulting" wage offer.
The union asked for a no-board report, setting a strike deadline of Nov. 1, when LAO offered miserly one per cent general wage increases in each of two years; this after a 92 per cent strike vote.
The teams still have Oct. 21-22 available with the conciliator to avoid a strike.
“To avoid a disruption, management must acknowledge all of our members’ years of service, hard work and dedication to helping low income Ontarians and assisting LAO’s service providers,” said Kevin Romain, chair of the OPSEU bargaining team.
In case of a job action, information technology services including the processing of duty counsel accounts, processing of certificate accounts by the Legal Accounts Department, disbursement authorizations, and lien lifts/discharges by Client Account Services would be affected. A job action could also affect research, payments and mail.
The contract for the 140 members expired March 31, 2004
