TORONTO - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union welcomes Rose Letwaba, Coordinator of the Gogo Grannies fund, to Toronto, as part of its commitment to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.
The Gogo Grannies is an HIV/AIDS support group based in the township of Alexandra in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Gogo Grannies is made up of 30 grandmothers who run support group programs for children living with AIDS, for AIDS orphans and their caregivers. The Gogo Grannies need funds for their activities as they support children whose
parents died or are suffering from HIV/AIDS.
OPSEU President Leah Casselman said the union is committed to fundraising efforts and raising awareness of the plight affecting the children living with HIV/AIDS all over the world. “Our members have worked tirelessly to raise money for ongoing struggles,” Casselman said. “I am proud that their efforts will continue to benefit people whose
lives are being destroyed by this disease.”
Rose Letwaba, who arrives in Toronto on Sunday Oct 3, 2004, will visit the David Kelly Program and Casey House, a hospice providing compassionate palliative and supportive care for people living with HIV/AIDS.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union, one of Canada's most democratic and dynamic union, provides an annual donation to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which works in partnership with OPSEU’s Live and Let Live Fund. This year, in addition to the $50,000 standing donation, OPSEU will be donating an additional $24,000 in its campaign
against AIDS/HIV.
The OPSEU Live and Let Live Fund supports agencies fighting the ravages of HIV/AIDS both in Africa and at home. Learn more about the OPSEU initiative at:
