STARTFORD – The hospital professionals at the Huron Perth Hospitals Alliance voted 93 per cent for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) over the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW).
OPSEU has represented full-time hospital professionals in Stratford since 1976 and recently signed up the part-timers as well. This was a vote triggered by Bill 136 after the hospitals formed an alliance.
The four sites of the Alliance are located in Seaforth, St. Mary’s, Clinton and Stratford.
"We are pleased that new members from the Alliance hospitals will be joining OPSEU, the union of choice for hospital paramedical professionals," said OPSEU President Leah Casselman. "And we're equally pleased that our longtime members from Stratford have chosen to stay with their union."
“These members chose OPSEU because our union understands and campaigns on the issues facing hospital professionals, such as the staff shortages and the terrible working conditions in many of the professions," she said.
OPSEU represents about 28,000 health care workers, including more than 15,000 hospital professionals, across Ontario.
