TORONTO – By an overwhelming margin, support staff at Ontario’s 24 community colleges have rejected a contract offer from the College Compensation and Appointments Council.
More than 77 per cent of nearly 6,500 eligible voters turned out Tuesday and turned down the offer by a whopping 95.5 per cent.
Key issues include job security, a demand for parity with other employee groups in the colleges for benefits and vacation, and workload.
The bargaining team is scheduled to return to negotiations with the employer Oct. 28 to 30.
“This enhances our ability to negotiate a fair settlement at the table,” said bargaining team chair Marilou Martin-Benoit. “It’s clear that our members are not happy with this offer, and the Council will just have to do better if it wants a settlement. I look forward to meeting them later this month.”
