Casey House staff gets tentative agreement on first contract

TORONTO - Staff at Casey House have reached a tentative agreement on their first contract.

If they ratify, the 50 members of OPSEU Local 501 will get 3 per cent wage increases in each year of a collective agreement covering three years retroactive to April 1, 2002.

“We are very pleased,” said OPSEU negotiator Mary Ellen Cassey. “After a long and difficult round of negotiations we’ve arrived at an agreement we are proud to recommend to the membership.”

Local 501 President Lynn Muir said stronger job security language was the key to the agreement.

Casey House is a hospice providing care for people living with HIV/AIDS. OPSEU represents nurses, kitchen staff, social workers, recreation therapists, program assistants, massage therapists, pastoral counselor/chaplain, health care aides and reception staff at the hospice.
