Key supporters join Casselman for Hospital Emergency Day of Action
TORONTO - Hospital professionals who work on Toronto’s “Hospital Row” will hit the streets this morning as part of a province-wide Hospital Emergency Day of Action.
Leah Casselman, president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, with special guests, will speak to members and reporters at a launch event.
Date: Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003
Time: 8:30 a.m.
Places: 600 University Avenue, TORONTO
Special guests at the protest will include:
David Miller, councillor for Ward 19 and Toronto mayoral candidate;
Olivia Chow, councillor Ward 24 (where hospitals are located);
John Cartwright, president, Toronto and York Region Labour Council;
Terry Downey, OPSEU vice-president for the Toronto region
A major “solidarity rally” is also planned for 12:00 noon at the same location. Casselman will be joined by:
Howard Hampton and Marilyn Churley, leader and deputy leader, Ontario New Democratic Party;
Marcia Taylor, vice-president, Ontario Nurses Association;
Marie Clarke-Walker, executive vice-president, Canadian Labour Congress; and
Wayne Samuelson, president, Ontario Federation of Labour.
