OPSEU strikers launch Inspection Day

TORONTO - Striking Ontario Public Service employees will hold an “Inspection Day” at workplaces across the province on Wednesday, March 27.

Under Essential Services Agreements, and by order of the Ontario Labour Relations Board, OPSEU representatives are entitled to have access to any worksite where striking employees in the bargaining unit would ordinarily perform their work.

“We will be inspecting workplaces everywhere, but we are especially concerned about the health and safety of workplaces where essential and emergency workers are supposed to be working,” said Leah Casselman, president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

Casselman and Barry Scanlon, chair of the OPSEU Corrections Bargaining Team, will begin the day by inspecting the Toronto West Detention Centre.
