No substance to Tsubouchi remarks: government negotiator

TORONTO - Remarks by David Tsubouchi that the Ontario government is now prepared to offer more money to striking Ontario public service workers are not true, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union learned today.

Today’s Toronto Star reported that Management Board Chair Tsubouchi made the remarks yesterday.

“The mediator has informed us that the lead government negotiator has repudiated these remarks and indicated that there is no substance to them,” said OPSEU president Leah Casselman. “Clearly, Tsubouchi’s strategy is to try to persuade OPSEU members to relax their strike activities. Our response to this will be to intensify them.”
