Public service employees vote on contract offer Feb. 26, 27, 28
TORONTO - Ontario public service employees vote this week on a contract offer from the Ontario government.
Workers represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will vote in 81 communities on Feb. 26, 27, and 28.
“This vote is an important step in our campaign to rebuild a public service that has been devastated by six-and-a-half years of cuts, layoffs, privatization, and mismanagement at the highest levels,” said OPSEU president Leah Casselman.
“We’re confident of a solid rejection of the employer’s Feb. 14 offer and a solid strike mandate that will give our teams the leverage they need to bargain a contract that supports the front-line workers who are the foundation of the public service.”
The union will release results of the vote late Friday.
The collective agreement for 45,000 public service employees expired Dec. 31, 2001.
