OPSEU convention delegates rally for justice for court workers

TORONTO - Delegates to the annual convention of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will be out in force Thursday to march and rally for contract improvements for Ontario court workers.

Date: Thursday, April 4, 2002

Time: 12:00 noon

Place: OPSEU president Leah Casselman will lead marchers from the Queen Street entrance of the Sheraton Centre, 123 Queen St. W. to the Court House at 361 University Ave.

During the strike by Ontario Public Service employees, almost all court workers are deemed an essential service, yet ironically over 50 per cent are contract workers with no benefits or job security protections. Some have worked on contract for 20 years or more. Among those who work inside the courtroom, 90 per cent are contract employees.
