CCAC staff welcome
review
HAMILTON – Staff at the Hamilton-Wentworth Community Care Access
Centre have welcomed the province’s decision to step in to manage the
centre.
Pam Clark, president of Local 274 of the Ontario Public Service
Employees Union at the CCAC, called the step long overdue.
"We were calling for this during the 10 weeks we were on strike
last fall," she said. "We were thrown out of the legislature
for yelling at the government to review the management of the
agency."
On Tuesday Health Minister Tony Clement notified the board that the
ministry was replacing the agency’s board and would be appointing
someone to operate it on behalf of the ministry for a period of time.
"I hope this will enable us to serve the community better,"
said Clark. She added that part of the problem with the CCAC has been
increasing demand for services which has not been matched by sufficient
increase in funding from the government.
