College support staff
reach tentative pact
TORONTO – Community college support staff represented by the
Ontario Public Service Employees Union have reached a tentative
agreement covering about 6,000 members at all 25 Ontario community
colleges.
The three-year agreement is worth nearly 13 per cent in payband
adjustments, wage increases and benefit improvements. A date for
ratification will be set shortly in conjunction with the College
Relations Commission.
Pay will rise by 2 per cent on Sept. 1 of 2000, 2001 and 2002. In
addition there is a four-year rate and an additional payband added in
2000, an increase in the differential between steps in 2001, and a
wage adjustment in 2002.
Benefit gains include an increase in life insurance, accidental
death and dismemberment, vision care, and dental coverage.
OPSEU President Leah Casselman congratulated the seven-member
bargaining team for achieving the contract in a difficult round of
bargaining.
