College support staff reach tentative pact

TORONTO – Community college support staff represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union have reached a tentative agreement covering about 6,000 members at all 25 Ontario community colleges.

The three-year agreement is worth nearly 13 per cent in payband adjustments, wage increases and benefit improvements. A date for ratification will be set shortly in conjunction with the College Relations Commission.

Pay will rise by 2 per cent on Sept. 1 of 2000, 2001 and 2002. In addition there is a four-year rate and an additional payband added in 2000, an increase in the differential between steps in 2001, and a wage adjustment in 2002.

Benefit gains include an increase in life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, vision care, and dental coverage.

OPSEU President Leah Casselman congratulated the seven-member bargaining team for achieving the contract in a difficult round of bargaining.
