OPSEU's Toronto Executive Board Endorses Municipal
Candidates
TORONTO - On behalf of 27,000 members, the OPSEU leadership in
Toronto is adding its voice to the attached
list of municipal election candidates recommended by the Toronto
and York Region Labour Council as those who will help keep the city
healthy.
"We are encouraging all our members to get behind these
progressive incumbents and challengers, " said OPSEU Board
Member Terry Downey. " Voters are looking at how to craft a
revived city council where a majority will stand up and fight
against the Harris Tories' attacks.
In Toronto, OPSEU is also endorsing environmental activist Tooker
Gomberg for mayor.
Critical care bypass at many of our hospitals continues to plague
our ambulance services. Community schools are being forced to close.
Responsibility for billions of dollars worth of public services has
been pushed down onto property taxes and local government. And OPSEU
members are aware of how the near disaster of the Adam's mine was
cooked up with the aid of the provincial Conservative government.
Another Toronto Executive Board Member, Stephanie Blake, said “on
November 13, OPSEU members will use this list as a guide. They'll
vote for a healthier, safer city and for quality well-rounded,
public education.”
