Health Clinic survey reveals courthouse staff are sick due to toxic mould

NEWMARKET – Forty per cent of the workers at the provincial courthouse in Newmarket are exhibiting serious health symptoms directly related to toxic mould found in the building.

The findings are contained in a survey conducted by the Occupational Health Clinic for Ontario Workers. The Ministry of Labour ordered the survey following the investigation of health and safety work refusals by members of OPSEU Local 310. " The symptoms are widespread and getting worse and they won’t go away until this building is shut down and the toxic mould is removed," said OPSEU Health and Safety officer Bob De Matteo.

De Matteo, OPSEU Regional Vice President Pauline Tapping and Val Erwin, OPSEU Local 310 steward will be available for comment on the survey when it’s released this afternoon.
