Striking home care
workers to visit Queen’s Park
TORONTO - Members of Ontario Public Service
Employees Union Local 274, on strike against the Hamilton-Wentworth
Community Care Access Centre since Oct. 10, will bring their call for more
funding for community health care to Queen’s Park.
The striking workers will rally in front of
the legislature from noon, Thursday, Dec. 7 to 12:30 p.m. Speakers will
include Liberal MPP Dominic Agostino, and Local 274 president Pam Clark.
“The government keeps saying it is
committed to effective health care, but its actions say it really doesn’t
care about the sick and elderly who need support to live and get better at
home,” said Clark.
“We want to let the Harris government
know that we are still fighting for good home care in Hamilton-Wentworth,
and we don’t intend to give up the fight until we get a contract that
will let us attract and retain qualified staff to do the job our clients
deserve.”
The group will attend question period in
the afternoon.
