Salvation Army Village strike ends

LONDON – OPSEU members at the Salvation Army Village have ratified a three-year collective agreement ending a bitter three and a half month strike.

The new contract is unchanged from one previously rejected, however the employer has agreed to bring people back to work on the basis of seniority. The village’s operations, which care for developmentally handicapped clients, should be back in service within two to three weeks.

Local 153 president Diana Smith said the end was anticlimactic. "We’re settling for no increase in the first two years of the contract, and one per cent in the third year. I guess the important thing here is that services that our clients need will continue."
