Thirteen members and staff participated in
the October session, in which they explored aspects of social change education.
In an intense 2 ½ days, participants practiced specific skills to support their
work as facilitators in union education programs, as well as in other roles in
the union. In particular, the group explored in depth issues relating to equity
in education. The session concluded with all participants preparing and
facilitating some of the most challenging activities from current OPSEU courses,
with lots of support and feedback from their colleagues.

staff designed half-hour long “Lunch and Learn” courses, practiced facilitating
them, and wrote the facilitators’ notes. Their topics are:
-
Making a Difference: Success in Activism
-
Making the Most of a Doctor’s Note
-
One Union, One Voice: Part-Time College Workers’ Campaign
-
Challenging the Silence on Harassment
-
·OPSEU: Somewhere for You – An Orientation to the Equity
Committees of OPSEU
-
My Working Conditions: An Introduction to Your Collective
Agreement
Copies of these will be available on the OPSEU website in the
near future. In the meantime, contact Betty Stevens or Barb Thomas in the
Training and Development Unit for a copy. |
