Train the
Trainer Produces new Local Education Materials
November
3, 2008 At last week’s Train the Trainer:
Focus on Design (October 20-23), ten OPSEU members and 10 OPSEU
staff worked together to design mobilizing, local education.
Through the production of ten 30-minute “lunch and learns”
members and staff strengthened skills to identify clear learning
goals, advance equity, and build union community and activism
through education. All teams test-facilitated their workshop,
and then wrote up the notes so that other OPSEU activists can
benefit from their work
“I liked the mix with staff and
members and how we had to work together,” enthused one
participant. “I learned how to motivate others in a respectful
and inclusive manner,” said another person.
The ten 30-minute workshops
produced by this course will be posted soon on this website for use in OPSEU workplaces – at lunch, before or
after shifts, or during meetings. To find them just follow the
links from Member Education
to Building Local Capacity.

Regional Educationals
The goal of the OPSEU
Education Policy is to provide educational programs that empower our
members to effect meaningful change in their workplaces and their
communities.
OPSEU offers training courses for activists, held on weekends at locations
across the province, with expenses paid for by the Education Fund. These
educationals are administered by OPSEU Regional Offices.
The focus
of our regional schools is skills development geared to new members and
activists. If you are interested in attending an OPSEU educational,
contact your Local Executive Committee. See schedule of Regional schools
Many OPSEU courses are now accredited through the “Passport to Learning”
program, which offers credits toward college diplomas through Mohawk
College.
