Facilitators’ orientation – “Climate change:
It’s a Union issue”
Stage set for regions to offer new
educational
On October 14 & 15, 2009 OPSEU’s new
course, “Climate Change - It's a union issue”, was piloted. This facilitator
orientation gave participants from around the province an opportunity to learn
more about OPSEU’s commitment to tackling global warming/climate change.
The course covers the causes and
impacts of climate change, makes the link between the environmental crises and
social justice and examines actions that can be taken in our union, workplaces,
communities and personal lives to make a difference.
In this very interactive two day
session there was a lot of positive energy and excellent ideas shared.
Participants explored the role of Unions in response to climate change and made
some commitment to positive action.

The generic course, which was
developed by a consultant working with staff and members of OPSEU, PSAC, CUPW,
CUPE, Steelworkers, BCGEU, BC Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour
Congress (CLC), will be revised and OPSEU’s Regional Education Committees can
now add this course to their weekend education program. |
