Following consultation with region 6
area councils and a number of local presidents, the
regional Executive Board Members and staff began a new
education initiative last fall.
Having identified the need to provide
more timely and structured core education to activists,
a pilot project was set in motion that has seen a
service area school completed in each region 6 service
area. A second school is planned in Sudbury starting in
January due to member population. Although the pilot
educationals took place at a challenging time of the
year, they were well attended and the evaluations and
comments have been very encouraging.
The EBM/Staff Education committee will
be reviewing the pilot project in early January and
discussing plans to expand the program in 2012 with a
yearlong calendar of events to assist locals and members
in planning their attendance.
While we continue with this initiative,
the EBMs and staff remain committed to facilitating
local sponsored educationals. Contact your staff
representative for details.
