Centrally-Run Local Treasurers’ Course

A centrally-hosted Local Treasurers’ Course will be run in March 2010.

Dates: Tuesday March 30, 9:00-5:00
Wednesday March 31, 9:00-3:00

Location: 100 Lesmill Road, Toronto

The Course

The course was developed jointly by the Accounting Department and the Training and Development Unit. It invites Local Treasurers to the union’s central office for a hands-on, practical look at effective financial management of a local. The course clarifies the local treasurer’s roles and responsibilities, basic policy and procedures, how the money works, the accounting systems, and how to develop and present a budget in the local.

Treasurers will find they are not alone in their questions of how to fulfill their responsibilities effectively. They will learn from other local treasurers as well as from facilitators.

To Apply

1.       Fill out the attached application form.

2.       Send in your registration between Monday February 8 at 9:00 a.m. to Tuesday February 9 at 3:00.p.m. Applications will NOT be accepted before 9:00 a.m. Monday February 8.

Selection

The workshop will be limited to a maximum of 24 participants who are currently local treasurers and who have NOT taken this training in the region or centrally.

SELECTION WILL BE ON A FIRST-RESPONSE BY REGION basis. That is, the first three people from each region whose written registrations arrive from 9:00 a.m. Monday February 8 to Tuesday February 9 at 3:00 p.m. will be accepted. Applications will NOT be accepted BEFORE Monday February 8 at 9:00.

Local treasurers can get their application ready and either send it themselves, OR give it to someone in their local to send in for them (email or fax on that date).

Confirmation will be on a first-response basis for up to 3 participants per region. Applications will be date-stamped upon arrival.  After 3 people per region have been confirmed, we will take the next three people factoring regional representation.

Applications should be sent by email or fax to the attention of Betty Stevens.  Sister Stevens can be reached by phone at 1-800-268-7376. ext. 8299, fax (416) 443-0180, or email: bstevens@opseu.org

If there is not space for you to participate this time, please note that this course is also run regionally, and that there are now two trained facilitators available in each region to provide the course.  You can also call your regional office for a copy of the Local Treasurers Toolkit. This is a practical resource just recently developed, designed to give new, local treasurers immediate support before they get to the Local Treasurers’ Course.
