January 5, 2006: Issue 4 Have your say on new OPSEU locals January is the month for front-line LCBO employees to have their say on the make-up of their new OPSEU locals. The Transition Committee set up to oversee the transition from OLBEU to OPSEU has proposed the creation of 27 brand new locals. The committee’s proposal also assigns some LCBO employees in northern Ontario to 15 existing OPSEU locals. Over 100 LCBO employees will meet Jan. 23-24 to discuss the plan, but members who do not attend the “local assembly” can still have their say. The plan, entitled “Your home in OPSEU,” is in the mail now to all delegates to the local assembly, but it is also on the web at http://www.opseu.org/lbed/assembly/assemblyindex.htm. Members can read the entire document online (complete with maps and key facts for each local) or download it and print it out. Members who are not coming to the assembly can send in their ideas for improvements to the plan. These comments will then be presented to the local assembly for consideration. Send your comments to OPSEU Communications Assistant Jaclyn Proudfoot no later than Wednesday, Jan. 18, as follows: Phone: 1-800-268-7376 ext. 8797 Fax: (416) 443-1762 E-mail: jproudfoot@opseu.org
Assembly delegates: Delegates who are leaving home to come to Mississauga for the local assembly on Jan. 23-24 should remember to vote in the upcoming federal election before Jan. 23. You can vote at advance polling locations in your community Jan. 13, 14 and 16. To find the nearest location, go to www.elections.ca, and click on the Voter Information Services link. Or call elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868 and speak to a representative. You can also check your local newspaper for details. Get on the list! You can receive The Echo directly by fax or e-mail. Just let us know how to reach you. Give us your secure e-mail address or fax number by calling OPSEUdirect at 1-800-268-7376 or (416) 443-8888.
