Across Ontario LBED members commemorated the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10. Their focus
was Article 23.2 “Everyone, without discrimination, has the right to
equal pay for equal work.” Members wore their buttons, filled in
surveys and took their message to the streets outside 18 LCBO
stores. Spirits were high and the public was very engaged and
supportive. LBED local presidents, mobilizers and member volunteers
offered free coffee and asked customers to fill in postcards
supporting legislation which would require employers to pay
temporary, casuals and part-time workers the same wage as full time
workers. Public support seemed even more positive after Tim Hudak’s
tirade on privatization last week.
