LCBO agreement receives final ratification

August 18, 2005: The Government of Ontario has given final approval to the new collective agreement between OPSEU and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. The provincial cabinet ratified the deal in an order-in-council on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Members of OPSEU’s Liquor Board Employees Division ratified the deal by a margin of 83 per cent in a province-wide vote held on August 8, 9 and 10. The tentative agreement has also been approved by the LCBO board of directors.

As a result, the terms set out in the memorandum of agreement between OPSEU and the LCBO take effect immediately. LCBO management has confirmed that implementation is already underway.

Most changes in the agreement – including the wage increase for the first year – are effective retroactive to April 1, 2005. As a result:

• Members should see the three per cent increase in their September 8 pay. Retro pay back to April 1, 2005 will also be added to that pay.

• The improvements to health and dental coverage and the new annual caps take effect on Sept. 1.

• The employer will begin registering employees for drug cards this month, with a planned launch date in November.

The full text of the memorandum of agreement and highlights of the deal are available on the OPSEU web site at www.opseu.org
