Members ratify new collective agreement

OPSEU members in the Liquor Board Employees Division Have ratified their new collective agreement after a two-day vote held
July 13-14.

“This contract belongs to the members,” says LBED bargaining team chair Vanda Klumper. “In every step of the process, it was our members who stood solidly behind us, and delivered when we needed them too.”

The new contract is a crowning achievement to an incredible bargaining campaign that struck a chord with both members and the public.

“This campaign was centred around a very simple idea: Good jobs for the people of Ontario,” says Klumper. “Everyone bought into that concept, and very few people could dispute that good jobs are the cornerstone of a good economy. From there, it was easy to keep focused on getting the new contract.”

Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU President, congratulates the entire Division for a job well done.

“Everywhere you looked, there were signs of support and solidarity,” says Thomas. “From posters to buttons to ‘booze bucks’ the message was simple, strong and visible. That’s the key to any successful bargaining campaign, and our LBED members were champions.”

Klumper says that the real work now begins: the daily enforcement of the new contract.

“Our contract will be defined by how well we enforce it in the offices, in the stores and in the warehouses,” she says. “That work will pay off when we bargain a new agreement four years down the road.”
