TITLE: SENIOR PAYROLL CLERK (#68)
LOCATION: Staff Relations Unit OPSEU Head Office, 100
Lesmill Road, Toronto
REPORTING TO: Supervisor (Regions 3 & 4), Local Services
SALARY: $1,164.00 to $1,216.00 per week (Appendix B,
Range 5)
WORKING CONDITIONS: As provided in the OPSSU Collective
Agreement
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
-
Processes, logs, adjusts and reconciles payroll information
for all OPSEU staff.
-
Responds to staff enquiries on payroll.
-
Prepares salary progression schedules. Prepares “on demand
cheques” as required.

Monitors staff pension deductions levels based on Collective
agreements.
-
Monitors employees’ sick leave status regarding change from
STD to LTIP.
-
Set up earning and deduction on ACCPAC.
-
Prepares bi-weekly payroll transfer to The Bank of Montreal
and Canada Savings Bonds transfer.
-
Prepares payments bi-weekly payment to Revenue Canada
-
Prepares a variety of deductions for garnishments, CSB’s,
CPP, etc. on a weekly or monthly basis.
-
Prepares monthly payments for OPSEU Pension, EHT, OPSSU and
ASU Union Dues, Political Dues, Charity, WSIB, etc. and reconciles various
payroll liability accounts.

Reconciles, journalize and make Union dues payment for
members on MDT or temporary assignment who are still being paid by their
employers.

Analyses payroll expenses to make sure that salary costs are
allocated to the right departments.

Prints month-end reports and distribute to payroll area.

Prepares year-end reports for the pension plan
Administrators.

Prepares T4/T4A’s, WSIB and EHT annual reports. Reconciles
with-holding accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Requires Community College one-year business/accounting
certificate (or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires two years related payroll experience.
-
Requires formal and informal updating on provincial/federal
legislation and collective agreements relating to payroll.
-
Requires Windows XP, Accounting Software packages, ACCPAC,
HRMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Email and Internet.
-
Requires a demonstrated commitment to Labour/Social
Democratic philosophy.
