TITLE: General Duty Maintenance Worker

LOCATIONS: OPSEU Head Office, 100 Lesmill Road, Toronto

REPORTING TO: Building and Facilities Supervisor

SALARY: $24.50 - $25.53 per hour

WORKING CONDITIONS: As provided in the OPSSU Collective Agreement


PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Building and Facilities Supervisor, the General Duty Maintenance Worker will assist in providing repairs and maintenance for the building, grounds, machinery and equipment at Head Office.

  • Assists in the repair, operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery.

  • Performs grounds and building maintenance duties in all seasons.

  • Assists with receiving loading dock duties and general office duties.

  • Reports damaged or inoperable furniture, furnishings, fixtures and equipment to Building Supervisor.

  • Advises Building Supervisor of supplies inventory.

  • Follows and maintains Maintenance Program.

  • Collects and disposes of garbage and recyclable products.

  • Cleans light fixtures, windows, glass areas, stairways and changes light bulbs.

  • High level internal and external maintenance.

  • Uses chemicals following written instructions.

  • Moves furniture, equipment and supplies.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Assists in the performance of major renovation work in the building.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Requires High School completion (or equivalent combination of education and experience) and three years minimum related work experience.

  • May require formal/informal updating of knowledge in any of the following: machine/equipment repair, maintenance and cleaning techniques, health and safety as well as hazardous materials handling.

  • Requires the strength to lift and carry at least 75 pounds.

  • Requires an understanding of the Labour/Social Democratic philosophy.
