TITLE: EDUCATION OFFICER

LOCATION: Training & Development Unit Communications Division 100 Lesmill Road, Toronto 

REPORTING TO: Supervisor, Training and Development

SALARY: $1,502.00 to $1,672.00 per week (Appendix A, Range 4)

WORKING CONDITIONS: As provided in the OPSSU Collective Agreement

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Coordinates OPSEU corporate educational programs for members.

  • Does research/data collection and analysis for course development, policy analysis and action planning.

  • Works with leadership groups (provincial and local) to develop and support strategic plans.

  • Builds the OPSEU Labour Educator’s Network through Train-the-Trainer programs, establishing and supporting member facilitation opportunities, and creating other openings for continued educational development.

  • Networks with other educators in the labour community towards advancing labour education programs and goals.

  • Works with and mentors, multi-disciplinary staff/member teams in the design, development and delivery of new labour courses and educational workshops.

  • Actively participates in short and long-term educational planning for the union.

  • Leads design teams, develops and prepares teaching and participant manuals for OPSEU educationals.

  • Occasionally facilitates at OPSEU educational programs, meetings and conferences.

  • Provides specialized advice on strategies and methods of delivering OPSEU's educational programs and campaigns.

  • Liaises with affiliates, community organizations, and government agencies as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires an honours degree, including formal training in Popular Education techniques (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) and three years of related work experience.

  • Requires formal and informal updating on new and changed software packages, legislation and regulations affecting OPSEU members and advances in adult education techniques.  Uses Microsoft Office software and UnionWare database.

  • Requires a demonstrated commitment to Labour/Social Democratic philosophy.
