TITLE: SECRETARY

LOCATION: Membership Benefits Unit, 100 Lesmill Road, Toronto

REPORTING TO: Supervisor, Strategic Planning & Policy Development

SALARY: $1,164 to $1,216 per week (Range 5 Appendix B)

WORKING CONDITIONS: As provided in the OPSSU Collective Agreement

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor, provides secretarial and clerical support to the Department.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides secretarial and clerical support services to the department.

  • Responds to straightforward benefits/pension/WSIB/LTIP enquires

  • Receives and directs incoming telephone calls to appropriate individuals.

  • Takes message and ensure they are transmitted to the proper individual.

  • Responds to straightforward questions regarding benefits, WSIB enquires and simple interpretation of the Collective Agreement to the members.

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating records from the various databases and ensuring the systems integrity.

  • Compiles summary reports from databases for Membership Benefits counsellors, other Staff members or outside organizations.

  • Responds to enquiries concerning pre-hearings and hearings.

  • Responds to enquiries regarding committee benefit appeals; LTIP, JIBRC, and the OPT.

  • Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires secretarial and clerical skills obtained through at least High School

  • completion plus one-year secretarial science certificate.  Two years of secretarial experience is necessary prior to obtaining position. 

  • Requires typing speed of 60 w.p.m. and shorthand at 80 w.p.m.

  • Requires well developed PC skills in Microsoft Office Suites.

  • Requires formal and informal updating on new and changed software packages.

  • Requires exposure to Labour/Social Democratic Philosophy.
