TITLE: OPSEU RESOURCE CENTRE REPRESENTATIVE – BILINGUAL

REPORTING TO:  Supervisor, OPSEU Enterprises

LOCATION:   OPSEU Head Office, 100 Lesmill Road, Toronto

SALARY: $1,284 to $1,446 (Appendix B, Range 7)

WORKING CONDITIONS: As provided in the OPSSU Collective Agreement

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, the Resource Centre Representative will be responsible for handling enquiries from members as follows:

  • Using resource materials such as collective agreements, memorandums of settlement, policy and legislation, answer general telephone and email enquiries from members in a timely manner.

  • Forward more complex enquires to appropriate individual/department and follow up to ensure the member received assistance with their enquiry in a timely manner.

  • Handle and resolve general complaints in a timely manner and forward more complex complaints to the appropriate individual/department.  Follow up to ensure the complaint was addressed in a timely manner. 

  • Respond to enquiries regarding status of grievances, scheduling of arbitration dates, time and location of ratification voting, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a community college diploma (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) and at least four (4) years of related work experience.

  • Advanced French language skills, both verbal and written.

  • Requires advanced computer skills and a typing speed of 60 w.p.m.

  • Requires regular formal and informal updating on software packages, uncontentious information from relevant collective agreements, labour and related legislation, OPSEU policy and procedures. 

  • Requires well developed interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills.

  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills.

  • An understanding of the objectives of the trade union movement, with some practical knowledge of union activities and labour matters.
