Local 274 ratifies new agreement

Members of Local 274 ratified a new collective agreement Dec. 14, ending a 70-day strike against the Hamilton-Wentworth Community Care Access Centre.

The new agreement provides several key gains:

  • An 18.2 per cent increase in pay for professional staff.
  • A 15 per cent wage increase for support staff
  • Improvements in the dental plan, shift premium and relief staff scheduling.
  • An increase in vision care to $250 from $150 every two years.
  • A reduction in hours of work to 35 from 37.5
  • Improved vacation for support staff.

With the settlement, community care in the Hamilton area should return to normal, including full referrals to members of Local 269 who work for the Hamilton-Wentworth Victorian Order of Nurses. They had been on strike earlier in the fall.
