Province-Wide Health and Safety Workshops

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) and the Workers Health and Safety Centre (WHSC) are offering free 3-hour workshops for health and safety representatives and committee members in 26 communities across Ontario from May 1-4, 2006.

The sessions are open to members of joint health and safety committees, health and safety representatives, union stewards or local union leaders, or workers who are interested in knowing more about joint committees and the context in which they operate.  Participants will also learn how the WHSC can support local health and safety committees.

Participants will discuss:

·     Joint Health and Safety Committees’ functions and powers,

·     Strategies for making committees work,

·     Changes to provincial and federal health and safety enforcement tools (legislation, including Ontario’s new confined space regulations and the new requirements for hazard prevention program for federally regulated workplaces, plus regulations and other information a Ministry of Labour inspector may reference when considering orders).
