A Message from NDP Leader Howard Hampton

Health Care Workers. You hold our health care system together. You work hard. You work long hours. Your sacrifices are endless.

Ontario New Democrats want to say thank you! Thank you for all you are doing and all you will continue to do to care for the sick, to comfort our loved ones and hold our public health care system together at this difficult time.

I want to say most of all how much Ontarians appreciate the additional care and comfort you have provided to patients who could not be visited by loved ones during the outbreak of SARS. I know that these long hours and extraordinary efforts often come at the expense of your own home lives and personal time.

New Democrats will continue to speak out for supports, protection and compensation for health care workers who are sick or quarantined, or working hard to help contain this outbreak. We will continue to work with health care workers and public health officials to come up with practical solutions to improve our ability to prevent and treat this disease.

Thank you for continuing to provide such exceptional care to our community despite the trying times. I look forward to working with you to rebuild a strong, expanded and, foremost, a public health care system in Ontario.
