Toronto city councilor and mayoralty candidate David Miller welcomed delegates to Toronto.

Victoria Alvarado Fenn, who will turn six in May, was the winner of the OPSEU HIV/AIDS banner contest. Victoria’s mother Mirla (right) is president of Local 5103 at Canadian Blood Services in Brampton.

The winning banner. Convention delegates voted to make HIV/AIDS the union’s international issue and established a Live and Let Live fund to fight HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and in Ontario.

 

OPSEU president Leah Casselman addresses the Convention on Thursday. She urged delegates to commit themselves to work to defeat the Conservative government in the upcoming provincial election. Casselman was re-elected as OPSEU president for a record fifth term in voting Friday, April 4. She defeated Bob Eaton, Regional Vice-President for Region 4 (eastern Ontario).
