OFL Workers of Colour Assembly

March 9, 2011

The first ever Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) Workers of Colour Assembly will be held on March 25 and 26, 2011. It is organized by the OFL Workers of Colour Committee and co-sponsored by the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, Latin American Trade Unionists Coalition and Asian Canadian Labour Alliance.

By the year 2017, peoples of colour will represent one out of five Canadians. Peoples of Colour are considered to be persons of Chinese, South Asian, South East Asian, Black, Filipino, Latin American, Arab, West Asian, Japanese and Korean descent among others.

Many peoples of colour face racism discrimination, social and economic inequities every day at work and in the broader community. As part of the OFL Communities That Work campaign, this Assembly will give participants the opportunity to discuss relevant and current issues like barriers to equality and access including good green jobs, adequate affordable housing, pensions and quality social and economic support as Ontarians.

This Assembly will allow a safe space for open dialogue about issues that affect each of our racialized communities.
