OPSEU
Provincial Human Rights Committee
Statement on the American tragedy
The
Provincial Human Rights Committee of OPSEU wishes to express its deepest
sorrow to the families of the victims of the September 11th
disaster in the U.S. Your pain is unimaginable. We share your grief.
We are proud of our
sisters and brothers in the various public services that have responded
without concern for their own lives. We mourn the deaths of so many of
our courageous and selfless comrades. Their families are foremost in our
minds.
We urge all of our
members in our more than 500 OPSEU locals to not be persuaded by the
hasty, ill founded and inappropriate naming of perpetrators that could
lead to the harassment and victimization of Canadians of Arab descent.
As members of the PHRC we
are deeply concerned for the preservation of all peoples' civil and human
rights. The need to treat everyone with respect and dignity is paramount
during this time of tragedy.
