Provincial Women's Committee

The World March of Women
kicked off March 8th and will continue until mid-October. OPSEU is part of the pan-Canadian organizing committee. We are also working with our coalition partners to organize activities in here in Ontario.

Buses will take to the highway from several points in Ontario for Ottawa and New York to mark the culmination of world march activities this Fall. A major rally in Ottawa is planned for Sunday October 15; one in New York at the United Nations is slated for October 17.

Meanwhile, women around the world are forging ahead with World March activities and demands for an end to poverty and violence against women. Approximately 10,000 people marched in Paris, France in mid-June. This event was organized by a coalition of more than 200 groups. They are also planning a large European rally to cap World March organizing, to be held in Brussels October 14. In addition, a Pan-African Women’s Day event was held July 31, with demonstrations and marches in Mali, Congo and Cameroon.

Anyone wishing to share photos from March activities may post them to the photo gallery at the world march web site. The address, where you may also pick up photos for your publications, is http://www.ffq.qc.ca/marche2000/photos/index.html.
