Update
The PWC has
begun preparations for the OPSEU Convention 2007. We have started to
develop resolutions on several issues including "Sisters in Spirit"
and the International Solidarity Fund.
The "Sisters in
Spirit" campaign was launched in March 2004 in response to the
alarmingly high levels of violence against Aboriginal Women in
Canada and the number of women who have been lost to violence.
Plans are
underway for the PWC Breakfast held the Friday morning of
Convention. The Committee is currently accepting nominations for
regional awards. In addition, the PWC has contributed a list of
pertinent questions for the candidates’ equity bear pit session at
Convention.
The Committee
has begun work on the Women's Conference which is scheduled to take
place in the fall of 2007. Location is to be determined. The theme
will be based on issues facing women internationally.
The budget and
work plan were reviewed and a discussion took place around
activities for Dec. 6. Each region will either participate in
activities with their labour councils, community groups or develop
their own activities.
A new course has
been developed by OPSEU's Training and Development Unit called
"Women in Unions:
Strengthening Leadership". This was piloted in the London educational
held in Oct.
The next meeting
was scheduled for Nov.27 and 28.
