Members who believe that they have a complaint should contact an advisor in
their region, as listed below.
The Advisors and Investigators are made up of representatives from the Equity
Committees and Caucuses and other members selected for their understanding and
background in human rights issues. Their roles are as follows:
Role of the Advisor:
-
obtain advice on the complaint process
-
assist in completing the complaint form where
appropriate
-
act as a mediator and encourage mediated settlement
where appropriate
-
assist and consult with staff, elected members and
potential witnesses
Role of the Investigator:
-
interview all relevant witnesses and gather all
necessary evidence
-
assist the parties in reaching a mediated
resolution or conciliation where appropriate
-
draft a report of the allegations, findings and
recommendations
Role of the Equity Unit:
-
provide advice on any aspect of the policy or its
procedures
-
put complainants in touch with Advisors where
appropriate
-
administer the complaint and ensure timely
processing of the complaint
A completed complaint form should NOT be sent to the Equity Unit directly by the
complainant; that is the responsibility of the advisor. The role of the staff in
the Equity Unit is to administer the complaint process and not to deal directly
with the parties in dispute.
