Celebrating women's heritage: October is Herstory Month (NUPGE)

Remembering our forerunners and honoring the women of today

Ottawa - October is Herstory Month.

Many women do not realize the richness of their heritage as displayed in the lives of a multitude of remarkable women who have gone before and have paved the way for women everywhere to be able to pursue their dreams and attain their goals.

The role of women in society has grown and changed dramatically over the centuries. It is because of the sacrifices and labour of the women in past generations that women have the rights and privileges they enjoy today.

"We should remember with respect those forerunners and should strive to honour those who are working diligently today to make significant contributions within their sphere of influence," says James Clancy, president of the National Union of Public and General Employees.

"Herstory has no end because the field of women's history is still wide open. The great delight from the beginning of Herstory has been the infinite range of women's stories and works that have been discovered, uncovered, rediscovered."

Happy Herstory Month sisters...We all have a story to tell!! In Solidarity. Cindy Haynes.
