
OPSEU Aboriginal Circle call for Regional Representatives

The OPSEU Aboriginal Circle is inviting OPSEU
members who self-identify as Aboriginal (Inuit, Métis or First
Nation status or Non status) to apply for five (5) positions on
the OPSEU Aboriginal Circle to fill vacancies in Region 2 (one
position), Region 3 (one position), Region 4 (two positions) and
Region 5 (one position).
The role of the
Regional Representative on the Aboriginal Circle is to create
and maintain networks within the Regions, to develop and promote
programs, to encourage First Nation (Status or Non Status),
Métis and Inuit members to participate in Union activities and
to increase the awareness and understanding of Aboriginal issues
throughout the membership.
Application
process:
Interested
applicants shall submit a Statement of Interest that outlines:
1. Who are you?
Describe the traditions or culture you are from (if known).
2. How have you
been involved in your community, union etc.?
3. What strengths
(personal, social, cultural) do you bring to the Aboriginal
Circle?
4. Why do you
want to be a Representative on the Aboriginal Circle?
Selection process:
The Equity Unit
will ensure an anonymous selection process.
The Committee
will select the new members based on the following
considerations:

Previous activist experience
-
Willingness to share cultural knowledge to the Aboriginal Circle
and OPSEU
-
Openness to learning various Aboriginal cultural activities from
all three cultures (Inuit, Métis, First Nation status and Non
Status)
A decision will
be made at the Provincial Aboriginal Circle meeting in
mid-March. Following that meeting, all applicants will be
notified accordingly.
