AFN AGA 2012: OPSEU’s Aboriginal Circle was there

September 13, 2012

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) held its Annual General Assembly (AGA) July 16 -19, 2012, in Toronto. OPSEU’s Aboriginal Circle members were there to represent, volunteer, and participate in the social and cultural activities throughout the week.

This year’s AFN AGA combined the election of a National Chief with a celebration that honoured the First Nations’ contributions during the War of 1812. The week began with an Eagle Staff Procession and a First Nations’ Veterans Commemorative War of 1812 service. A private viewing of the Norval Morrisseau collection, a concert of popular First Nation talents, an Aboriginal Feast, the National Chief’s Dinner, a theatrical performance, and various receptions followed throughout the week.

OPSEU was one of the cosponsors to the AFN AGA social and cultural programs. The photo gallery captures the events throughout the week.
