MPP says cuts hurt MNR Written

By Jim Birchard

Burce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch says its a first for him.

He is actually agreeing with OPSEU that cutbacks are hurting the Ministry of Natural Resources as far as enforcement and protection of wildlife is concerned.

Murdoch is responding to comments made by the Minister of Natural Resources David Ramsay to Bayshore Broadcasting News that there are no problems as far as compliance and enforcement are concerned.

The Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP says that is just not the case as there are no Conservation Officers on the Bruce Peninsula and if people see something happening there is no one to call.

He says using the Service Ontario Counters to distribute information about the MRN or handle complaints just doesnt work.

Murdoch says the answer to the problem is hiring more Conservation officers and reopening he local MNR offices so people can phone there with a concern and actually have a person talk to them.
