Time’s up, Dalton

In April, 2003, Dalton McGuinty made an important promise to OPSEU members. He said:

“Public employees should have the same rights as employees in the private sector, and, as Premier, I will restore successor rights for Ontario government employees.”

After more than two and a half years in office, it’s time Premier McGuinty lived up to his promise.

Successor rights matter. When work is privatized or contracted out, successor rights mean workers can move with their jobs – and take their collective agreement, their wages and benefits, and their union with them. Most unionized workers in Ontario have these basic rights. Crown employees don’t.

Restoring successor rights is about fairness. It’s about protecting OPSEU members’ jobs. And it’s about protecting the public services we provide.

YOU can help

  •  Pick up a “same rights” postcard to Dalton McGuinty from your OPSEU steward or regional office. Sign it and give it back. Ask your co-workers to sign a card, too. Download postcard
  • Send a message to your MPP. Click here to send an e-mail, print out a fax message or download a sample message you can edit or send as is.
  • Ask your steward about your local’s campaign and how you can get involved. Together, we can make the difference.
