Time’s up, Dalton
In April, 2003, Dalton
McGuinty made an important promise to OPSEU members. He said:
“Public
employees should have the same rights as employees in
the private sector, and, as Premier, I will restore
successor rights for Ontario government employees.”
After more than two and a
half years in office, it’s time Premier McGuinty lived up to his promise.
Successor rights matter.
When work is privatized or contracted out, successor rights mean workers
can move with their jobs – and take their collective
agreement, their wages and benefits, and their union with them. Most
unionized workers in Ontario have these basic rights. Crown employees
don’t.
Restoring successor rights
is about fairness. It’s about protecting OPSEU members’ jobs. And it’s
about protecting the public services we provide.
