Province of Ontario Savings Office Divestment

The Province of Ontario Savings Office (POSO) was founded in 1922 by Ontario's Farmer-Labour government to provide security for depositors and capital for the province. It serves customers at 28 locations, in 22 Ontario communities including Northern Ontario villages not served by other banks or trust companies.

Despite a spirited campaign by the union, POSO customers, municipalities, labour councils and the opposition parties, the Savings Office will be sold to Desjardins Credit Union April 1, 2003. Once again, the Conservatives have failed to listen to their constituents. The new owner, Desjardins, has promised to maintain all POSO locations and rehire all present employees.

OPSEU wants to continue to represent these employees. We want to ensure Desjardins keeps its promises to the staff and their loyal customers.
