June 9, 2006: Government reconsiders its position on 'grandparenting' change to the OPSEU Pension Trust.

Protect our pensions

We all want to retire one day without financial worries. Your OPTrust pension can help make that possible.

The McGuinty government continues to privatize services and contract out jobs. If our jobs move, our OPTrust pension should go with us.

OPTrust and OPSEU want to change the pension plan so you can stay in it, as long as the new employer agrees to join the plan. This is called “grandparenting”.

More members make for a stronger plan. No matter what governments do, you want to retire with a good pension.

Sign a postcard

The government and OPSEU jointly control OPTrust. Both have to say yes to the “grandparenting” change.

OPSEU’s Executive Board has already said yes. Sign a postcard asking Gerry Phillips, the Minister of Government Services, to approve the change.

Get a postcard from your OPSEU steward. Sign it and hand it back. Make sure your fellow OPSEU members sign postcards, as well.

OPSEU will collect all the postcards from around the province and deliver them to Gerry Phillips.
