Liberal fundraiser draws protestors from across the labour movement
August 20, 2010 Dalton McGuinty’s fundraiser at the GreyHawk Golf Club near Ottawa drew close to 100 protestors. OPSEU activists were joined by members of ONA, CUPE, CAW and PSAC as the Ottawa District Labour Council (ODLC), including President Sean McKenny, added their support to this province-wide campaign.
“Some activists traveled from as far away as Kingston and the Picton area to be here today,” said organizer and OPSEU Executive Board Member, Lynn Orzel. “Workers really want their voices heard on this issue.”
Rolling down their windows, Liberal Party supporters received a free OPSEU golf-ball. They were also handed flyers with information on how McGuinty’s upside-down policies are cutting wages for working people while offering tax cuts to big banks and profitable corporations.
Some attendees grew impatient in traffic line-ups delayed by the protestors, with two incidents of aggressive behaviour resulting in police intervention.
$1000 in donations were collected for the Champions for Children Foundation of the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, to help with providing school supplies for children in need.
