On May 31st Bill 65, "Improving Customer
Service for Road Users Act, 2001" was introduced. If the
legislation is passed, the transfer of MTO's driver examination
services will be the first major initiative under this Bill. Driver
examination services include written, vision and road testing. It is
anticipated that driver exam services could be transferred by the end
of 2001.

Affected MTO employees will be issued letters on Monday, June 4th
requesting that they attend a meeting on Saturday, June 9th. The
employer intends to review the employees' options as they pertain to
Schedule A Transfers through Tendering (Service Transfers) under
Appendix 18. Employees will be presented their "opt in" or
"opt out" letters at this meeting. The response date has yet
to be confirmed by the employer, but will be Friday, June 15th at 5:00
p.m. at the earliest. The employer will make alternative arrangements
for employees that are unable to attend this meeting.
Arrangements have been made for Paul Dunseith, MTO MERC Chair, and
John O'Brien, MTO MERC Vice Chair, to assist in responding to members
enquiries with regards to their options. Paul and John will be
available to respond to members from Monday, June 4th until Monday,
June 18th inclusive. Members may contact their respective Staff
Representative, Paul Dunsieth, John O'Brien, or Sandra Harper, Job
Security Officer.
It would be appreciated if worksites would compile their questions
and forward via their elected representative and that the responses
then be shared with all.
