OPSEU wants to continue to represent you

OPSEU wants to continue to represent Driver Examiner Centre staff through the transition to the new employer. We understand the issues facing you both through the transition and getting your first collective agreement with the new contractor.

We know that for most of you, your first priority is finding job security with the new employer. Whether you opted in or out, Serco will be looking for experienced staff. And our members are the only people out there with this experience.

OPSEU intends to help those who wish to continue to work in the driver examination centres in future.

Questions? Contact OPSEU at our toll free number 1-800-268-7376 and ask for either Eileen Wesley @ ext. 353 or Paul Dunseith @ ext. 354.

Meanwhile, your Reasonable Efforts Committee and the MERC will work hard to enforce your rights and entitlements through this transition period.

Your Job Security Officer is: Judith Marion, OPSEU 1-800-268-7376 x 370 jmarion@opseu.org

MTO blindsides OPSEU on news of sale

The news of the awarding of the 10 year contract to operate Driver Examination Centres took your MERC team by surprise. We were not given the courtesy of advance notice. In fact the media found out about the sale before our members. The announcement was made on Canada News Wire at 1:15 Feb. 25, at least 10 minutes before a call was placed to OPSEU Job Security and the MERC.

OPSEU questioned how the move would serve the public in terms of cost, safety and security. President Leah Casselman said this was another pre-election sell-off similar to the sale of Highway 407 before the 1999 election. MTO MERC Chair John O’Brien noted the service was taken over by the OPS in 1961 to eliminate corruption.

DEC Notes is published as a regular update for OPSEU staff in Driver Examiner Centres. More information on the government’s planned transfer of services can be viewed at:
